Some suggestions for a project on Australian History?

Hey guys, i have to choose an aspect of something thats happened in australian history, and has affected australia today. Ect- Ned Kelly, Gold Rush, World War one... all these are interesting but dont appeal to me, I want to do my project on something that im actually interested in. Something really good would be something that happened in the past, and has affected the future in an obvious way. Something interesting :P thanks for your help, :)
